Our Origins
From Competition to Collaboration
Our co-founder, Jared, fell in love with personal finance as a finance and economics student in college. As he progressed in his own financial journey, his friends took notice and started asking for help. In 2020, after recognizing the need for financial guidance for other students, Dime Financial was launched as a money-coaching business.
However, another need was immediately recognized, not for students, but for coaches. Jared was struggling to find a system that made it easy to communicate with clients, provide feedback and guidance, and ultimately scale his business.
After getting frustrated with spreadsheets, Jared turned to a close friend, and now co-founder, Jacob, for help. Over the course of 3 years, the duo built the core functionality of what is now Tandem. The initial intent was to create a proprietary platform to give Dime Financial an edge in the coaching space.
However, in 2023, leadership made a pivot. It became clear that there was more opportunity in helping other coaches than there was in competing with them. This realization leads us to our mission today…

In 2023, our team met Kai at Fincon in New Orleans. There was instant chemistry and after staying connected for some time, we realized the benefit of incorporating his industry insight and experience into the vision for Tandem.
Kai has been in the money coaching business full-time for nearly a decade and is extremely passionate about guiding his clients toward the life of their dreams and transforming their relationship with money. On June 21, 2021, Kai became the official owner of Dr. Budgets and has since successfully operated his business with consistent 6-figure income years.
While Kai remains committed to serving his clientele, he has expanded his services to coach and support other money coaches looking to systematize and grow their own businesses.
With a common goal to support the success of money coaches and abundant experience, Kai provides strategic guidance on our software solutions and offerings. Further, Kai supports our team in sales and marketing.
